They have several band and orchestra programs at different skill levels and auditions are open to any student in the United States.
Governor's School
Governor's school for the arts is a summer program available to sophomores and juniors in the state of TN. Students from all over the state audition and are selected based on skill level.MCHS student, Caitlin Moscato, has been selected to attend.Being a flute player, Caitlin would have likely auditioned against around 100 flute players and the School only accepts about 5-8 students per year.
The arts program takes place at MTSU and lasts 4 weeks.During that time students participate in band or orchestra, attend master classes, receive private instruction, take music theory, perform with small chamber groups, and explore the other arts disciplines on a daily basis. They perform several concerts throughout the duration of the program that are free and open to the public.Acceptance to the program is such an honor that all students are taken on full scholarship for room and board for all 4 weeks of the camp.
Student Ambassador
Hello, My name is Kelsey Jolley. I am an eleventh grade student at Moore County High School. I have been accepted as one of forty United States Student Ambassadors from Tennessee and Alabama. I was nominated for this position by way of previous United States Achievement Academy National Awards. As a Student Ambassador, I will be traveling to Austria, Switzerland, France, and Italy where I will study their cultures. I will be taking part in a home stay with a family in one of t hose four countries. During the home stay, I will have the chance to go to school with the family's children, share stories about the U.S. and my community, and learn about their country and community through stories of their own. During my stay as a Student Ambassador, I will be visiting the Vatican City in Italy, the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre in France, and Auschwitz in Austria. At Auschwitz I will have the privilege of speaking with a Holocaust survivor. I am very excited to learn about their way of life as well as to share my experiences as an American. However, in order to make this happen I am expected to pay $6500 for expense of the trip. My family and I have an ongoing bake sale fundraiser; and along with several other fundraising events I have received donations. We are still a long way off but I am working hard to raise the money required to participate in this program. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity that I would hate to miss out on.
